West Range Use Policy
The West Range Committee and the Board of Directors have jointly decided to alter the West Range shooting policy in order to better make use of the availability of the range to more NSSA club members.
Effective immediately, a member and a guest may utilize this range. An RSO is no longer required to accompany a member to open the West Range. Any NSSA member plus a guest can now open the West Range together at any time. Two people are required at all times. The 2 person rule is due to safety reasons. As a reminder, an NSSA member must accompany his or her guest at all times on the ranges,
The only time the West Range will not be open to members is when a scheduled shoot or scheduled training session is taking place. So, before heading out to shoot on the West Range always be sure to check the club’s website to see that the range is free.
There will also be moveable standing target frames available that can be placed anywhere in the stones forward of the pavilion for people that have been approved to draw from a holster and have their red holster sticker displayed. Reminder/holster work cannot be done while UNDER the pavilion.
Only members vetted by the Safety and Training Committee may practice drawing and recovery from a holster at the West Range. Holster work must be done on gravel.
All standard practices of the West Range and NSSA must be observed at all times. This includes sign-in, payment of range fees, range rules, range commands, muzzle down policy and the four rules of firearm safety. Violation of any of these practices or safety rules will result in disciplinary action by the Board of Directors.
In short:
- A minimum of an NSSA Member and a guest must be present to utilize the West Range
- If a scheduled event starts all members must yield to the event.
