Improvements for the Rifle Range pavilion are coming this fall. The first upgrade scheduled is the replacement of the broken concrete pad. Work will start Labor Day, Monday, September 4, 2017. This will require shutting down the range during work hours, 8 AM until about 3:30 or 4 PM all week. We will move the shooting benches into the grass and establish a new firing line there so that members may shoot each day after the workers finish. All range rules will remain the same as before. Shooters are still required to sign in as always, but will not be charged to shoot, as the cash box will be unavailable. The pistol range will not be affected by this work, and will remain open.
On Saturday, September 9 the workers are planning to pour the concrete. After that shooting out on the grass should be available every day all day, until we are told we can use the pad and bring the benches back under the pavilion. The F Class CMP shoot will occur on Sunday, September 10, weather permitting.
The next improvement will be the replacement of the pavilion roof with a slightly larger one, with gutters, downspouts, aluminum covered beams, and an interior ceiling. This work is tentatively scheduled for early November. We will keep you informed of the exact schedule when it is firmed up.
Other improvements will include replacing the target racks at 100 yards, repairing several backstops, and gravelling the roadway between 100 and 200 yards. Again, we will keep you informed when we have a firm schedule.
We thank all members in advance for your help in getting these much needed improvements started, and for giving up target practice during that week. If you have any questions, you may contact me at rifle@northsidesportsmen.com.
