Cowboy Fast Draw at NSSA (Wax Event)

Cowboy Fast Draw is a fast growing sport designed in the spirit of the Old West and The Cowboy Way. While there may be quite a few rules, the core principals are simple: SAFETY FIRST, FUN SECOND and COMPETITION THIRD. It’s where your ‘get up’ and your attitude is just about as important as your score.
If you answer “YES” to any of these questions—Fast Draw at NSSA is probably for you.
Have you ever wondered if you actually have the reflexes to win an old-school Western showdown?
Would you enjoy a shooting sport that focuses more on hand-eye coordination and instinct than staring through a tiny set of sights?
Do you like the idea of a sport where your ‘persona’ and camaraderie are just about as important as your score?
The overall premise is also simple: It’s one on one, fastest wins. And we have one heck of a good time doing it!
Participants will not be shooting live ammunition but specialized wax projectiles from a .45LC casing fitted with a 209 primer. No powder. Steel targets are 15 feet away. When the light goes off – draw – shoot!!!
Maybe that oversimplifies things, sure. You just have to see it and do it to believe it.
Participants will require some special equipment but NSSA has club owned six guns and holsters to get you started! However, generally you will need (but dont worry – the club has some six shooters to loan!):
- Single Action Revolver chambered in .45LC with a 4 5/8″ barrel. That is the shortest allowed. Ruger Vaquero and Colt replicas are what are needed. If you have something that looks like a Colt, let’s see it!
- Leather. Holster and belt. Be sure to look at the links below as special holsters are required.
- Eye and Ear protection.
- Cowboy/Cowgirl Clothes. (Yes, you read right…..we dress like in the Old West as part of the fun!!)
- At minimum, leather boots (no tennis shoes or sandals)
- Demin or Canvas Pants
- Long Sleave Shirt (sleaves can be rolled up)
- Cowboy/Cowgirl Hat
