Fourth Annual Battle of the Bulge Match Dec 10th
On Sunday, December 10 th Northside Sportsman’s Club will hold the Fourth Annual Battle of the Bulge shoot.
It will be the 73 rd anniversary of the battle that took place from December 16, 1944 through January 25, 1945. 250,000 German troops, including three full German Panzer divisions, were massed along the Belgian border.
It was Germany’s last large-scale offensive and a great gamble to try to turn the tide of war. Soldiers on both sides would suffer some of the harshest winter conditions and experience some of the most brutal fighting of the Second World War.
It was named The Battle of the Bulge because of the bulge it created in the American lines at the onset of the battle.
Nov 2017 Rifle Sight in days
NSSA’s Rifle Committee will once again hold sight-ins days this year for hunting rifles on November 18 and 19, and also Nov 25 and 26, from 8 am til 4 pm each day. These dates are the Saturday and Sunday before and after Thanksgiving.
Participants may sight in rifles, muzzleloaders and slug guns. Cost is $1 per firearm for members and $2 for non-members.This event is subject to cancellation depending on the weather conditions. We will only cancel any day that the temperature does not rise above 25 F. or for all day rain. If we cancel, the range will be open for regular shooting.
Come on out and get you deer rifle ready for the season, and enjoy swapping stories with other hunters.
Rifle Range Renovations Begin Nov 6
Further work on the rifle range will start Monday, November 6, at about 8 AM and continue for 2 to 3 weeks. We will be getting a new pavilion roof installed, with gutters, downspouts, and other improvements. During week days when the workers are there the range will be CLOSED to all shooting. After the workers leave for the day, the range will be open. The range may NOT be open weekends depending on weather impact during weekday and to keep the project on schedule. This work will not affect the pistol range, which will be open as usual.
Sight-in Days will occur as usual on the weekend before and after Thanksgiving, and the range should be open Thanksgiving Day. Those members wishing to sight in for deer season should either wait for sight-in days, or get it done before November 6. As usual, all ranges will be closed the first week of regular deer season.
Please bear with us as we make the pavilion a better place, and we build for the future.
Any questions, contact Stan Hoover, Range Chairman
Rifle Range Renovation Schedule
Improvements for the Rifle Range pavilion are coming this fall. The first upgrade scheduled is the replacement of the broken concrete pad. Work will start Labor Day, Monday, September 4, 2017. This will require shutting down the range during work hours, 8 AM until about 3:30 or 4 PM all week. We will move the shooting benches into the grass and establish a new firing line there so that members may shoot each day after the workers finish. All range rules will remain the same as before. Shooters are still required to sign in as always, but will not be charged to shoot, as the cash box will be unavailable. The pistol range will not be affected by this work, and will remain open.
On Saturday, September 9 the workers are planning to pour the concrete. After that shooting out on the grass should be available every day all day, until we are told we can use the pad and bring the benches back under the pavilion. The F Class CMP shoot will occur on Sunday, September 10, weather permitting.
All ranges CLOSED April 22
