Date/Time: Sundays 10am – 11:30am, First Session 01/07/2024.
On Saturday, December 16th Northside Sportsman’s Club will hold a Battle of the Bulge shoot.
It will be the 79th anniversary of the battle that took place from December 16, 1944 through January 25, 1945. 250,000 German troops, including three full German Panzer divisions, were massed along the Belgian border.
It was Germany’s last large-scale offensive and a great gamble to try to turn the tide of war. Soldiers on both sides would suffer some of the harshest winter conditions and experience some of the most brutal fighting of the Second World War.
It was named The Battle of the Bulge because of the bulge it created in the American lines at the onset of the battle.
For an excellent history of the Battle of the Bulge, see http://tinyurl.com/Ardennenoffensive
This match is intended to honor the memory of those men who, a generation ago, were surrounded at Bastogne, or were members of Patton’s third Army that relieved Bastogne on Christmas day 1944.
If you wish to dress in a period uniform, you’re welcome (and encouraged) to do so. Rifles permissible include M1 Garand, 1903 Springfield, German K 98, and US Carbine 30 Caliber. Other rifle types may be appropriate; please ask.
COURSE OF FIRE
We will be shooting man silhouette targets at 200 yards.
We’ll start with the bolt action rifles by shooting up to 5 sighters at 200 yards, followed by 16 rounds slow-fire
for score with your choice of standing, kneeling or prone.
Then we’ll move to the M1 Garand or US Carbine 200 yards, once again shooting up to 5 sighters followed by
24 rounds rapid-fire for score, (3 clips or magazines of 8 rounds each in a 120 second time frame) your
choice of standing, kneeling or prone.
The two relays will be scored separately.
The match is open to members and non-members, and will cost $10, regardless of whether you compete with
one or two rifles.
DATE: Saturday, December 16, 2023
TIME: Sign-in at 9:30. Match starts at 10:00
COST: $10
This match is an informal event intended to foster the memory and respect for the soldiers who fought and died. Period dress is encouraged but not required.
