West Range Halloween Shoot
A massive thank-you to everyone who joined us for the West Range: Return of the Dead zombie shoot! This marked our very first official event on the new West Range, and the updated layout gave us the perfect stage to test out some new ideas — and it’s safe to say, our shooters loved it.
Despite losing poor Carl the security guard to the zombie horde, our fearless NSSA action heroes held their ground and kept the outbreak under control.
We couldn’t have done it without our incredible members, guests, and RSOs who made the event such a killer success (pun totally intended). Here’s to many more events on the West Range!
*Reminder to check your email for the Die Hard event on 11/28. Search for “Die hard is a Christmas Movie!”

Proposed NSSA By-Laws Amendments: Rationale and Review Process
In March 2000, the current format of our By-Laws was adopted to facilitate the transition from Charter By-Laws. This process aimed to update our governing procedures and more clearly define the responsibilities of the Executive Officers and Board of Directors in the administration of the Association.
Over the past 25 years, these By-Laws have undergone 23 rounds of amendments to address ambiguities and evolving policy needs, the most recent of which occurred in May 2023. In the time since, significant societal changes have occurred, most notably a shift in the culture of volunteerism, which has had a profound impact on the operational capacity of our organization.
As members of the Board of Directors and Executive Officers of the North Side Sportsmen’s Association, we approach the responsibility of governing the Association with the utmost seriousness, striving to fulfill our duties in a professional and democratic manner.
Upon thorough review, we have determined that the current structure—operating with two distinct governing bodies—has become increasingly time-consuming and inefficiently repetitive. Each body holds its own mandatory monthly meeting, often involving discussion and voting on the same issues, resulting in unnecessary duplication of effort. Furthermore, the daily operations and activities that make our club a vibrant community rely heavily on a small group of dedicated committee chairpersons and their members, alongside the two governing bodies.
To address these concerns, Neil McFadden volunteered to form a committee to review the existing By-Laws and propose solutions. After months of diligent work by the committee and extensive debate among Board Members, we have developed these proposed amendments. Our objective is to create a governing system that is more efficient, accountable, and transparent, while preserving the original intent and as much of the original language as possible.

Hello Members of NSSA,
We have exciting news about the West Range renovations, we’re making quick progress!
The project is moving along swiftly. The side berms in front of the pavilion have been fully removed, and the base layer of the new berm seems to be set. We are also making sure the range is built to last by installing drainage swales to ensure proper water runoff.
What’s Happening Next?
We will continue to have dirt delivered to the club this week and through the end of November as we start the final touches on the range.
⚠️ IMPORTANT REMINDER: Range Closure
Please remember that the West Range remains closed during this time of renovation. We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we work to complete this exciting project.
Thank You!
A huge thank you to everyone who came out for the workday this past Sunday! We were able to clean and store all of the wood from the old berms, which we can reuse for future range maintenance projects.
Stay tuned for more updates.
Sincerely,
NSSA West Range Committee

West Range Closed for Construction
We’re excited to announce that a major improvement project is now underway on the West Range!
As part of this effort, the range will be temporarily closed starting October 3rd, 2025. This project includes:
- Regrading and resurfacing the range floor
- Installing improved drainage
- Extending the bay lengths in front of the pavilion
- Splitting the area into two dedicated shooting sections
We anticipate that the West Range will remain closed for several weeks while the work is completed. We’ll keep you updated as the project progresses.
Regarding upcoming events: depending on construction progress and equipment storage needs, we’re still hoping to host the annual Zombie Shoot. We’ll provide more information about West Range events in the near future.
Thank you for your understanding and support as we continue to improve our facilities!
October 5th Trap Hours
All: Please be aware that Trap will close at approximately 10:00 AM this Sunday, October 5th for a special event.
Early Morning Shooters can still get their rounds in – so if you are an early riser, feel free to come out!
Please note this change and Thank You.

Oct 2025 Member Meeting Agenda
Please join us for our next membership meeting on October 7th 7:30PM at the clubhouse. We have two very important items on the agenda that we want to bring to your attention.
1. Proposed Bylaws Changes The Bylaws Committee will present proposed changes to our bylaws that primarily change our club’s leadership structure to help us operate more smoothly and effectively. The proposed bylaws would transition our government to a new model: members would elect the board, and the board would then select the executive officers.
This new structure is designed to help us select the most qualified leaders for each role while also eliminating redundant work and improving our club’s efficiency. This creates a clearer, more skilled, and more unified leadership team focused on serving our members and using their time effectively.
2. Nominations for Leadership Positions We will be opening the floor for nominations for the Executive Officers and Board of Directors. These are key leadership positions, and your input is vital as we prepare for the upcoming elections at the December membership meeting.
Your participation and feedback on these items are crucial. We look forward to seeing you there.
